Since the days of his campaign for the presidency in 1992, Democrats have been forced to defend the actions of President Bill Clinton. Whether it be the accusation of rape by Juanita Broaddrick or allegations of sexual harassment by Paula Jones, the Democrats have stood behind him. They fought tooth and nail to protect him during the Monica Lewinsky saga that nearly cost him his presidency. Now though, things might be starting to change. With the tidal wave of women coming forward with accusations of sexual misconduct against various men in all walks of life, Democrats are trying to use it for political gains. They have long been seen as the party of women and, if they can use this movement to gain power in Washington, they will. The problem, though, is Bill Clinton and his past, and what to do about it. This raises an interesting question for the good of the party: Should the Democrats stop defending Bill Clinton?

Those who feel they need to stop defending Bill Clinton think they have to, or be labeled as hypocrites. They argue that Bill Clinton had multiple accusers over the years and, if the Democrats want to go after Roy Moore or Donald Trump, then Clinton must go. The Democrats, for decades, have claimed to be the party of women and, some feel, if they want to keep that moniker, they need to end the defense of him. Some even feel their defense of him has cost them at least two presidential elections and, if they ever want to win another, they must make him face the consequences of his actions alone.

People who feel the Democrats should stand by him think he has paid for his crimes. He endured the process of being impeached and having his private life laid bare for the world to see. Also, they feel he made a mistake and has more than made up for it with all he has done for the world through his foundation and presidency. Finally, they argue that he has not been accused of anything in 20 years and he should be forgiven.
