An idea which, if you had told someone several years ago, would have been considered absolutely crazy, is now a possible reality. That idea is President Donald Trump vs Oprah Winfrey in the 2020 general election for president of the United States. Clearly, after Donald Trump won the presidency in 2016, a lack of political experience is not something that would disqualify you in the eyes of a lot of voters. Now, it seems that it would actually be a bonus.

Winfrey brought about the speculation with her speech at this year’s Golden Globes, which some are now comparing to President Obama’s famous speech at the 2004 Democratic Convention. That speech launched his rise to the presidency in 2008. Apparently, according to CNN, some close to Winfrey are urging her to run for office. Her longtime partner spoke to the Los Angeles Times about her running. “It’s up to the people,” Stedman Graham told the Times. “She would absolutely do it.”

Winfrey has 100 percent name recognition and, as a self-made billionaire, she could conceivably self-fund her campaign, if needed. Even so, after the chaotic first year of the Trump administration, voters may shy away from another political novice in the White House. She would also have to decide if she wanted to endure the endless scrutiny that would come with a presidential run. Still, the question is out there. Should Oprah Winfrey run for president in 2020?
