Recently, Patrick Soon-Shiong, Billionaire and LA Times Owner, advocated for a change in how people consume news on social media. He labeled social media as “the cancer of our times”. He also added that “The short attention span we’re creating in this millennium is actually very dangerous”.
Some media analysts believe that LA Times owner is right to label Social Media as the cancer of our times. They argued that social media is giving rise to a community that gives importance to “popularity” rather than “credibility”. Whereas, others argued that Patrick Soon-Shiong is right to worry about social media because it is a direct threat to his traditional newspaper business.
This scenario instigated a debate across social media regarding whether social media is really a cancer of our time?
