Since he announced he was running for president, President Trump has basically been at war with the media. From calling them “fake news” to his near constant assertions that several media outlets are lying about him and his presidency, Donald Trump has been on the attack. Plus, with his constant use of Twitter, he is going around the media to try to control the stories of the day and present them in a way that his supporters will like. Since he charged onto the national political stage, we have seen a steady eroding of the trust in the media. This begs the question: Has President Trump delegitimized the media?
Those who believe that he has delegitimized the media argue that he has to, so his presidency can survive. They feel he is swamped with so many scandals and has been such a huge failure that he needs a scapegoat. They see him as a man who has so much to hide, that if the media finds out his secrets and exposes him, his presidency and, possibly, his very freedom would be gone. That means he needs the media in this country to have as little credibility as possible. Also, they believe he is looking towards his next business venture after he leaves office, and that will probably be launching his own news outlet.
People who believe that President Trump has not delegitimized the media feel that the media has done it to themselves. The media’s constant stories on Russia and their interference in our elections are seen as an attempt by the media to destroy the Trump presidency. Also, they feel that the media is deliberately ignoring all of President Trump’s accomplishments since he took office and, instead, are overblowing any perceived shortcoming he has. Finally, they see the media as being biased against President Trump, so they do not take them seriously.
In this clip, USA Today shows President Trump calling CNN fake news:
Has President Trump delegitimized the media? Have his attacks and use of social media destroyed the media’s credibility, or has the media, with their constant attacks on the president, caused their own credibility issues?
Yes, President Trump has delegitimized the media
Those who feel the president has delegitimized the media say that he has done everything he can to destroy the media so they do not expose the many scandals from his past.
Trump has to blame someone-press is keeping tabs on failure-so it’s a logical focus-Trump owns Fox News like Putin runs the news in Russia.

Yes because no other president has had so much to hide !

He does it because he is afraid of the truth the media tells about him and that's the honest truth why he discredits the media.

No, President Trump has not delegitimized the media
People who feel that the president has not delegitimized the media say that the media has done it to themselves. They feel that, with their clearly biased stories against the president, they cannot be believed.
I think the press has done a pretty good job deligitimizing itself.

The press does a great job at delegitimizing itself. Funny thing is how the press sees itself as an honest broker of truth. ???

The press delegitimized themselves.

The press has been delegitimizing itself for years. It's just getting more and more obvious and outrageous. NPR has its narrative push too.
